Bugatti Veyron 16.4 – WOW!

What a car is all I can say! The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is one of the most exclusive sports cars (Super car) with a limited edition of just 300 cars planned for the first 5 years. The Veyron is fitted with a Quad-Turbocharged engine capable of producing 1001hp, with a price tag of about $1,500,000. That is not a typo, and there isn’t an extra zero in the end. (I see price range being reported from about $1.2 to $1.7million). The car has a top speed of 407km/h (253mph) , and yes, there is a video of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 hitting 407km/h floating around on the web. See this very cool video on the Veyron:

Apparently, getting a car up to 155mph needs only about 270hp, but getting the last 100mph requires another 730hp! So, a 16 cylinder engine with 4 turbo charges was created generating 1001 horse power. With so much power, the engine generates massive amounts of heat, such that the car is fitted with 10 radiators, where normal cars need only 1. The Bugatti Veyron video shows the driver getting the car eventually up to a little over 407km/h. There was an interesting mention that the car tires would last only 15 minutes at speeds of above 400km/h, but fortunately for the driver, the fuel would last for only about 12minutes at those speeds! Nontheless, it was really amazing.

Fuel Economy?

I read an interesting article on Howstuffworks about the engine build of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, and according to their calculations, to generate 1001 horsepower, the Veyron engine needs to burn 1.33 gallons (5L) of gas per minute! But to create a engine compact enough, they had to use turbocharging – stuffing more air into the cylinders to burn more gas. So, Bugatti uses a maximum turbo boost of 18 PSI to double the output power of its engine. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 cars can be serviced at Bentley dealerships worldwide (about 20 of them), but for repairs, a special mechanic must be flown in from the company. According to wikipedia, 70 Veyrons were to be build in 2006.
